Challenge: Hail Damage Assessment

An asphalt shingle roof on a residential home had significant hail damage. Significant hail damage, including missing shingles on all slope houses, had signs of collateral damage to mushroom vents, gutters, downspouts, and window screens.

Strategic Approach: Insurance Reassessment and Advocacy:

The homeowner called in a claim to Allstate Insurance before Wess met them. The summary showed Allstate paying for half the roof. Wess provided an accurate storm date that matched the damage to the house and roof.  Wess disagreed and educated homeowners on the next steps to get a reinspection with an insurance adjuster.  While looking at the insurance summary, Wess noticed one line showing that the roof’s square feet were the same amount as the squares Allstate was paying for.

They had used Eagleview for their report, but Wess had previously tried to get an Eagleview and you could not get the report due to tree coverage.

Wess was able to obtain a different type of report and it showed the square feet of the roof was double what they were paying. Wess sent the adjuster my estimate for the whole roof replacement along with the correct report and explained the error that was made.  Within 24 hours, Allstate had doubled the original insurance claimed and provided a new claim summary based off of Wess’ inspection.

We presented several options, and the customer upgraded to a 26-gauge black metal roof. The installation included all edge eves, trim, and a 20-year, long-life screw.  The additional funds collected from Allstate helped offset the higher price of a metal roof.
